Under the cloud of yesterdays
Under the cloud of yesterdays
Oil on canvas
24" x 30"
2026

This piece is about memories, and time, and things that people lose and find.
We all live our lives pretty casually, not knowing that some of our experiences will acquire a powerful meaning over time.
I was never attached to mementos or the past; I was never nostalgic. Lately I started dwelling on the amazing, colorful, juicy moments from my and other people's pasts. Now it is there, and then it's gone, and you can't believe it passed.
My mom had only a few photos from her teenage years, of herself and of her friends.
One of them has an inscription, "to my forever friend".
WW2 and history threw these friends around, a few lived, a few died, but the picture stayed and it whispers and sings to me, telling a story of a friendship, which I try to imagine, guess, reinvent.
This painting was created as a space for what has been, for what is now, and for the things that disappear and are not there anymore, but we feel their presence, which is somewhat similar to a negative space in a painting.
